Prof. Lorenzo Schiano di Pepe graduated in law cum laude in 1997 from the University of Genoa and, after having attended the University of London (LLM International Business Law, 1999), the Georgetown University Law Centre (LLM International Legal Studies, 2000) and the University of Milan (PhD in International Law, 2004), joined the University of Genoa as a researcher in European Union law in 2005. He was appointed professor of international law at the same institution at the end of 2011. His research experience include, inter alia, a period spent as a research intern at the International Maritime Organization (1997-1998) and the position of research assistant to Prof. Edith Brown Weiss which he held for some months at the Georgetown University Law Centre in 2000. In 2007 and 2008, in the framework of the Egyptian-Italian Environmental Cooperation Program (EIECP), he was international consultant on marine environmental law for the Legal and Institutional Framework Project (LIFP) aimed at supporting the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency to enhance national legislation. He is a member of the Environmental Law Commission of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
