The Arctic Frontiers takes place every January in the Norwegian city of Tromsø. It attracts 1400 delegates form 30 countries and is covered by 130 journalists. Arctic Frontiers runs for a week. Monday and Tuesday is dedicated to Arctic Frontiers Policy, Tuesday and Wednesday Arctic Frontiers Business, followed by Arctic Frontiers Science which takes place Wednesday through Friday in the Arctic Frontiers week. The theme for Arctic Frontiers 2016 is “Industry and Environment” and the dates are 24. – 29. January. Call for papers for Arctic Frontiers Science is now out. The main themes here are “Environmental Footprints”, “Arctic Stewardship” and “Technology Needs.
The Workshop “The EU as a Global Actor in the Arctic” will be arranged on 26 October 2016 at the K.G. Jebsen Centre for the Law of the Sea, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Tromsø.
The Workshop is organized within the framework of the project: Boosting the EU Arctic Policy; Security, safety and sustainability, EU ARCTYCA, financed by the Marie Curie Actions – FP7 – 2013 – IEF. International leading scholars and practicioners and consultants in the field will hold the Workshop. It will represent an opportunity to come together, exchange ideas and discuss emerging legal issues concerning the current European regulatory framework in the Arctic.
The third Marsafenet book Jurisdiction and Control at Sea. Some Environmental and Security Issues has been published.
The COST Action IS1105, MARSAFENET – NETwork of experts on the legal aspects of MARitime SAFEty and security, invites applications for Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs).
The application period will be continuously opened until July 1, 2015. All applications must be submitted by email to the STSMs Coordinator, Dr. Valentina Rossi ([email protected]). Applicants will be informed about the Assessment Panel decision within five working days following receipt of the submission.
MARSAFENET Action aims to bring together experts in international law of the sea in order to increase the knowledge on maritime security and safety and to develop a common conceptual and methodological framework with the goal of contributing to fill the legal gaps and of transforming scientific results into feasible solutions. STSMs are an instrument to promote scientific collaboration and exchanges between the Countries participating to the MARSAFENET Action. The aim of these missions (exchange visits) shall be to contribute to the scientific objectives of the Action.
STSMs contributing to the goals of MARSAFENET Action are encouraged, paying particular attention to the four thematic issue of the Action:
Approved STSMs will be financed in accordance with the COST rules on duration of the missions and financial support. The total budget for this call is EUR 6000.

The Training School will address specific subjects mainly relating to maritime delimitation and environmental protection. Attention will be paid to the settlement of maritime disputes including ITLOS and ICJ jurisprudence and arbitration procedures.
